Luxor

Luxor is a city on the east bank of the Nile River in southern Egypt. It is located on the site of ancient Thebes, the capital of the pharaohs at the height of their power, which existed from the 16th to 11th centuries BC. Today’s city is surrounded by two huge surviving ancient monuments: the graceful Luxor Temple and the Karnak Temple, located a mile to the north. The royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens are on the west bank of the river.
